UX Design: Off-site Navigation Update
Overview
For Marriott’s Hotel Ecosystem, I provided updated navigation to Marriott’s external Events Calendar product templates to meet brand compliance and to better align with the current Hotel Ecosystem designs.
The header needed to adopt the look and feel of the Hotel Ecosystem, but also incorporate a “book now” or “reserve now” button (based on brand voice) that links directly into the hotels’ booking path to encourage room night conversion.
Acceptance Criteria
- Does not overhaul the current design, but rather includes any small tweaks to the design as needed
- Design recommendations support the functionality of an off-platform product and allow for the guest to easily book a room/convert
- Guests should be able to easily navigate back to the hotel website

Solution
User Flow

Ideal Design
After understanding the user flow and pulling in competitive analysis, my initial design solution was to apply the full Hotel Ecosystem navigation. I’d have to work closely with our development vendor Milestone to implement it on the external sites.
While ideal, this navigation is currently being redesigned and would take extensive effort to recreate for off-site pages as-is. This design also needed to be handed off quickly with the understanding that we will revisit the ideal version after Hotel Ecosystem redesigns are complete.
To create the more simplified navigation, I focused on mobile first as it is easily crowded. Guided by our ideal navigation, I stripped away features such as ratings and search. To remain aligned with standards, the header simply features the hotel logo, hotel name, map and phone as full tertiary CTAs, and “book” as the primary CTA.
