Social Media Creative Direction for WNBA’s Seattle Storm 🏀
As a Wunderman newbie and women’s basketball fan, I excitedly joined a rapid-fire pitch for a campaign welcoming the WNBA’s Seattle Storm back home to the renovated Climate Change Arena.
While most of what I initially proposed was wildly out of budget, what stuck was a focus on the team’s superstars as players and people — people who care about the world around them. And with the players taking a lead on gender and racial equality, voting rights, and LGBTQ+ issues, “Be The Storm” was a call to fans to be part of a collective mission.
Led by an all female creative team, the campaign showcased Sue Bird, Breanna Stewart, and Jewell Loyd as powerful athletes with purpose.
“It was important for the creative to be led by female voices who could bring out the power, talent and grace of this star-studded WNBA team.”
Guy Seese, executive creative director of Wunderman Thompson Seattle
As we hammered out social, experiential was able to come to life. Final creative, with direction by internationally renowned artist and photographer Jill Greenberg, was featured on Little Black Book.
