Creative Direction: Seattle Storm @ Climate Change Arena 🏀
As a Wunderman newbie and women’s basketball fan, I excitedly joined a rapid-fire pitch for a campaign welcoming the WNBA’s Seattle Storm back home to the renovated Climate Change Arena.
While many of my initial ideas exceeded the project’s budget, one core concept endured: celebrating the Storm’s superstars not only as elite athletes, but as people committed to creating positive change. With players leading conversations around gender and racial equality, voting rights, and LGBTQ+ advocacy, “Be the Storm” became an invitation for fans to join something bigger than basketball.
Led by an all-women creative team, the campaign positioned Sue Bird, Breanna Stewart, and Jewell Loyd as athletes whose impact extended far beyond the court.
“It was important for the creative to be led by female voices who could bring out the power, talent and grace of this star-studded WNBA team.”
Guy Seese, executive creative director of Wunderman Thompson Seattle
As the campaign evolved, the creative expanded beyond social into experiential activations, creating a cohesive brand presence across multiple touchpoints. Directed by internationally acclaimed artist and photographer Jill Greenberg, the final campaign was featured by Little Black Book.
